Junior Merchandisers Dobbies Head Office, Melville Nursery, Lasswade, Midlothian, EH18 1AZ

We currently have an opportunity for two Junior Merchandisers to join our Purchasing teams within Home & Gifting and Food, both roles of which will be based in our Central Support Offices at Lasswade. 

As a key member of the Purchasing team, you will be required to assist the Merchandiser in the preparation of allocations, managing replenishments and analysing data on performance to support range planning.  

 Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of business plans for their division (sales, stock targets, intaking buying margin, markdowns, net margin).
  • Assisting with space reporting to determine the optimum range size, product mix and increasing sales and profit in line with Company strategy.
  • Assisting in planning the range with the buyer, ensuring historical and future trends data and seasonal variations are taken into account. Discuss promotional activity and volume deals where appropriate.
  • Assist in reviewing the supplier strategy for each group with the buyer, identifying sourcing requirements where appropriate.
  • Assisting in the gathering and analysing of data on current performance and planned ranges.
  • Work with the team to maintain the buying calendar and the critical path.
  • Liaising with suppliers, distribution centres and stores on purchase orders and deliveries, and tracking critical paths to ensure seasonal launches are delivered in line with the critical path and launch dates
  • Assist in set up, review and re-forecast the WSSI taking into account seasonality, trends and stock targets (monthly, quarterly and year end).  Monitoring and maintaining the OTB.
  • Support the preparation of lessons learnt, scoping meetings and range reviews in line with the agreed buying calendar to the Purchasing Director.
  • Assist in delivering the KPIs for my division.

 The successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a high degree of computer literacy and have a meticulous, organised and pragmatic approach to their workload with a keen eye for accuracy. They must also be able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.  As an integral member of the Purchasing team, you will be customer focussed and flexible.  You will also be able to form good working relationships at all levels and enjoy working in a fast paced, demanding and varied environment. 

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills. (have moved this higher up)
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is essential and previous knowledge of Navision and/or Mercatus operating systems would be advantageous. (have moved this higher up)
  • In depth Merchandise Planning experience within a multi retail site.
  • Management of range planning, OTB control and WSSI.
  • Possesses good understanding of supply chain processes.
  • Knowledge of range, space and stock management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player – can communicate articulately and effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Possesses strong negotiations skills.
  • Possesses commercial and financial acumen and margin management.
  • Able to work collaboratively and build effective relationships.
  • Resourceful in their approach to resolving day to day operational issues and queries.
  • Highly organised with a flexible approach to work.
  • Resilient and resourceful with a ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to respond to reactive situations.
